High-profile settings get a better response to staff recruitment, attract more volunteers and find it easier to fill places. But there may also be occasions when the media believe you have done something wrong or there's an unforeseen crisis - so you need to be prepared.
If you don't have a clear strategy for working with the media then you may miss out on opportunities for good news stories and make negative coverage worse. Have a process in place and make sure it's understood by all staff.
Always be on the look out for stories that will appeal to the local press. Fun days, play schemes, anniversaries, launches, grant awards and good Ofsted reports are just a few examples.
