She manages two centres in Ipswich, which were among the first to take part in an innovative crisis childcare scheme in Suffolk. All children's centres in the county are now part of the Side By Side initiative and contribute to its funding.
Only families in acute distress are eligible. That could include those with a parent in hospital or on a drug or alcohol recovery programme, escaping domestic violence or caring for a disabled child.
One thing Side By Side is not is "simply a bit of childcare"; it is part of wider support, says Turner-Jones. "We want families to come and engage in something like family support as well so you're getting a clear outcome for the child and parent," she says.
