In Practice: Cash in hand - Food Standards Agency

The Food Standards Agency is offering grants of up to 10,000 for food hygiene and healthy eating initiatives.

Applications must come from local authorities but projects can be led by or involve other organisations. A total of £200,000 is available for 2008/09. The agency is keen to back projects that focus on food hygiene in the home and promote healthy eating by working with disadvantaged groups. One of its key themes is helping children boost their food skills and knowledge. The closing date for England, Northern Ireland and Wales is 29 February. Application forms can be downloaded from www.food.gov.uk/enforcement/laresource/lahngrants. There is a separate scheme for Scotland.
