In Practice: Cash in hand - Community Assets

Community Assets is a 30m government programme to help community organisations take over public buildings.

Grants of up to £1m are available to refurbish council buildings that will be transferred to community organisations, including those working with children, young people and families. Projects must be partnerships between a local authority and third sector organisation. Initial bids can come from either partner. Other statutory organisations like schools cannot apply. Grants do not include revenue funding. The programme is being run by the Big Lottery Fund on behalf of the Office of the Third Sector. The deadline is 15 November.
