In Depth: MPs call for guidance on Sure Start services
During a session of the Sure Start All-Party Parliamentary Group on 29 February, MPs warned that the widespread confusion and uncertainty around the provision of Sure Start children’s centres in England could cause a major obstacle to parents accessing the help and support they need.
The members called on the government to hold local authorities to account where they may be failing to provide families with the statutory required minimum level of services or where they are at risk of breaching their obligations under the Childcare Act 2006. The group is also calling for a more rigorous approach to consultations on changes to Sure Start services to ensure that all parents have the opportunity to have their voices heard.
