Gordon Brown may have publicly supported the Youth Opportunity Fund when he launched his campaign to be leader of the Labour Party earlier this month (YPN, 16-22 May, p3), but many people working in the youth sector are facing an uncertain future.
At present, projects only have guaranteed government funding until April 2008. The Comprehensive Spending Review, which is now expected in the autumn, will contain details of future funding - but in the meantime many workers are left wondering if they will be out of a job come next spring.
Soye Briggs, project manager of Crime Concern's Kick Start programme, which works with disengaged young people in Southwark, south London, says it is something a lot of his staff are concerned about.
