The central management of records and data has helped Leicestershire council improve the percentage of looked-after receiving an annual health assessment

Performance Percentage of looked-after children who had their annual health assessment. Twelve months up to 30 September 2009

Along with up-to-date immunisations and regular dental checks, an indicator of the standard of health care local authorities provide for children in their care is the annual health assessment.

In Leicestershire, the percentage of looked-after children receiving an annual assessment was low in 2006. At 62 per cent, this was significantly behind the national average of 83.2 per cent.

But more recent figures show that the authority has since made impressive strides in this area, with 82 per cent of children in care receiving their health care check-up in the 12 months up to 30 September 2009.
