Performance The number of private and public court cases allocated to Cafcass staff
Family court children's guardians across England have had to manage a huge casework increase in the past 18 months. The number of care applications alone was 41 per cent higher in April to December 2009 than in the same period in 2008.
The Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) is now operating a system whereby an initial safeguarding analysis is guaranteed for all children rather than providing a premium service for a smaller number of children. In the Greater Manchester service area, staff have had to get used to this way of working to ensure cases are allocated in a timely manner.
