The adoption service in Stockport has been bucking the national trend in recent years by increasing the percentage of children placed for adoption within 12 months.

Sue Westwood, service manager for fostering and adoption in Stockport, says that while the authority is not short of people wanting to be adoptive parents, special attention has to be paid to children who have specific needs.
