Project Giving Nation

Purpose To increase understanding of charitable giving, while developing skills in volunteering, campaigning and social entrepreneurship

Funding It costs about £300,000 a year and is funded by the Office for Civil Society’s Social Action Fund and Santander

Background The Giving Nation programme was created in 2002 as part of government efforts to halt a fall in charitable giving. It was part of the Home Office-funded Giving Campaign and when that three-year campaign ended, transferred to the Citizenship Foundation.

In 2007, the Cabinet Office agreed to support a hands-on element – the Giving Nation Challenge – to encourage young people to develop social action projects.
