Housing schemes get parenting help

1 min read Youth Justice
A guide to help housing associations set up parenting programmes to support families in crime-ridden areas launched yesterday (13 November).

The It Takes a Whole Village to Raise a Child guide is based on the experiences of a Parent RAW project run on the Moorlands Estate in Brixton, south London, by the Metropolitan Housing Trust (MHT). The project aimed to help parents and young people understand each other better through a 16-week programme and residential course.

The guide, published by MHT and social enterprise charity In-volve, sets out how the programme was developed and how other housing associations can replicate the project.

Parent RAW was developed by MHT, the local youth service, the police, parents and other stakeholders. In-volve was then approached to develop and pilot the community-based scheme.
