Homelessness: Survey reveals 'hidden crisis' of young Muslim runaways

1 min read
As many as one in 20 young Muslims run away from home, according to a new poll.

The web site muslimyouth.

net surveyed around 400 young people across the county to reveal what it has described as a "hidden crisis". It has also launched a campaign to raise awareness of the issue.

Project manager Imran Saithna said that a lack of communication within families and lack of support services were to blame for the high number of runaways.

"There is a very high number of young Muslims running away," he said.

"One of the main reasons is they feel they cannot access mainstream support services so they have nowhere to turn. Another reason is family pressures, the concept of not being able to communicate with the family."
