Homelessness: Government grant goes to Safe Moves

The money will help the project's four pilots, in Birmingham, Wolverhampton, North Yorkshire and Suffolk, continue until their funding is taken on by local authorities in October. More than 100 young people have already been through the Safe Moves scheme.

The extra funding will also be used to produce a toolkit of good practice information for use by local authorities and voluntary organisations.

Safe Moves was launched last January by The Foyer Federation and Connexions to identity 13- to 19-year-olds at risk of homelessness and give them help including peer mentoring, life-skills training and aid with accommodation.

Backing for the project also comes from the Freemasons' Grand Charity.
