Trustees have decided to keep the heritage scheme in a review of small grants programmes. Discussions are under way with The National Youth Agency, which is contracted to deliver it in partnership with the Heritage Lottery Fund until 2007.
Sharon Goddard, education policy adviser at the fund, said: "We have shown a commitment to Young Roots. But overall funding is wrapped up in other decisions." One factor is the scheduled June announcement by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport of the share of National Lottery funds allocated to arts, films, sport and heritage, following a consultation that had more than 10,000 responses.
