Michael Greenfield, youth services officer at Milton Keynes Council, said the service is keen to teach young people about the origins of Black culture. "We want them to understand where a lot of the music they listen to comes from," he said. "It is also about getting them to explore identities."
Greenfield said about 1,500 young people, aged 13 to 19 and from a range of backgrounds, are expected to be involved in the programme.
The events range from film screenings to gospel concerts and poetry performances, and are supported by about 18,500 from the Arts Council and 5,000 from Milton Keynes Council.
