The contract covers the eight children's centres already open in Milton Keynes - which the council has been running for 18 months - as well as a further four currently in the process of being set up.
Councillor Sandra Clark, the cabinet member for children's services, said the council was looking for a specialist childcare agency to take up the contract, which will run up to March 2011.
She added: "Children's centres are a way we can provide key support to parents. We believe offering specialist agencies the chance to run these centres will enhance the excellent service they already provide."
