Milton Keynes faces 4m of cuts across children and young people's services

Connexions services, early intervention and prevention work are among proposed cuts to children's services in Milton Keynes, it has emerged.

A quarter of the money will be saved by restructuring Connexions with the axe falling on the service’s work with secondary schools.

A source at the council, who did not wish to be named, said as many as 17 staff will lose their jobs as a result of the decision.

The move, described in council budget papers as a "restructure of service provision to focus on the most vulnerable rather than being available to everyone of the relevant age", will save £1m.

Reduced investment in family support and social care projects provided under contract by community and voluntary sector organisations will save a further £200,000. And funding for community-based preventative programmes through the Children’s Fund will be cut by £200,000.
