A spokeswoman for the council confirmed that up to 677 children’s services posts could be scrapped overall, although the majority of these workers will be so-called "back-office" staff.
The planned cuts, which are yet to be signed off, are part of the council’s drive to save £50m next year across all departments.
As part of this, the council wants to save £4m by reviewing the contracts of all outsourced children and young people's services.
A further £55,000 is expected to be saved by integrating services that offer information, advice and guidance to young people and families.
Carl Minns, leader of Hull City Council, said final decisions on cuts to children’s and young people’s services would be made when the council meets on 24 February.
