Health visitors: Better health for poorest families

The Government will fund a new campaign to give the poorest families better access to health visitors.

The plan recognises that families with the highest incomes are morelikely to get support from health visitors than lower income groups whoneed it most. It says 10 pilot projects will be set up to tackle this,offering services through children's centres.

"Midwives and health visitors are ideally placed to identify childrenand families at risk, and to provide intensive and structuredhome-visiting schemes to those who might benefit," it states. "Throughthe development of 10 demonstration projects, we will build the Englishevidence base on health-led parenting support."
