1 min read
Health visitors are demanding better pay and conditions for working in areas of greater social deprivation, Children Now has learned.

Gavin Fergie, professional officer for the Community Practitioners' andHealth Visitors' Association Scotland, said health visitors in GreaterGlasgow and Lothian were entering local negotiations over contractsintroduced under Agenda for Change.

"Certain health visitors working in areas of social deprivation workover their generic health visitor role so they're pursuing claims to bebanded higher up."

The news follows critical reports highlighting how children born to moreaffluent families will be denied some visits from health visitors undernew guidelines.

Under Hall 4 guidance, health visitors focus on children born indeprived areas. All families receive the same initial screening andvaccination programme, but some families are only invited to attend theeight-month and two-year examination rather than attending themroutinely.
