The primary care trust and local education authority jointly provide an integrated health clinic at Springwood special needs primary school.
Up to 170 children with special needs (physical, behavioural and learning) can access health services including physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and dental care.
Teresa Carey, a children's nurse at the school, shows teachers how to care for children in the classroom. She said: "We're one big team. We don't establish ourselves as health and education."
Carey's post has been made a joint appointment with the LEA, which means she will now work through the school holidays to help parents.
