Malcolm Wright, chief executive of NHS Education Scotland, told ChildrenNow the funds had recently been signed off to support the development ofskills for doctors, nurses and paramedics.
"We're working on the content but we've consulted widely about what arethe core competencies of staff for recognising the acutely unwell childand their symptoms, and carrying out the initial treatment," hesaid.
The move follows recommendations made in a report for the ScottishExecutive in 2004 that core standards be identified so health staffcould be trained to use them wherever they encountered children in acritical condition.
NHS Scotland is working towards implementing training by 2008/09.
