Around 175,000 copies of the British National Formulary for Childrenwill be sent to doctors, pharmacists, nurses and other child prescribersnext month.
It covers children from birth to 18 and provides guidance on specificdoses and formulations. An online version is also planned.
Though some information on children's medicines is available through theBritish National Formulary, doctors often have to rely on personaljudgment to decide what drugs and dosages to give to children. This isparticularly the case for specialist conditions, where they often resortto finding information themselves by examining diverse sources.
Ian Costello, the publication's lead editor, said it would mean doctorswould have greater confidence in their judgments.
