Health News: School nurses - Research backs campaign for resources

1 min read
School nurses want to get more involved in health promotion work but a lack of time and money is preventing them from doing so, a new survey revealed last week.

An in-depth survey of 1,291 school nurses by the Royal College ofNursing revealed over a third wanted to spend more time on healthpromotion.

Significant numbers also wanted to increase their classroom educationand family support roles. But 64 per cent said their workload is toomuch and just one per cent think there are sufficient resources for themto do their jobs well.

"There is a huge resourcing issue for school nurses and that's why wedid the research, so that we have evidence to support our campaign formore resources, be it in the form of money or more nurses," said LizAllan, chair of the Royal College of Nursing's School Nurse Forum.
