Health news: Participation - Chance for children to shape services

1 min read
Children and their families are being asked to participate in local healthcare decisions through a new initiative.

Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, and the South Devon Healthcare Trust are running the projects as part of the Government's Patient Accelerating Change consultation programme, and are the only two acute trusts out of around 50 to focus solely on children's care.

The South Devon project, called Wings, focuses on children and young adults who are regular users of the trust's services.

The aim is to use their views to better co-ordinate the transition between care as a child and as a young adult. Around 90 young people, all aged 11 or older, are involved and are being targeted with questionnaires.

The Queen Mary's project, Kids Improving Paediatric Services, includes school involvement through personal, social and health education lessons and views can be submitted via a dedicated email address.
