Health News: Palliative care - South London to get first hospice

Children with life-limiting conditions will spend less time travelling to access care following the announcement of south London's first children's hospice.

Demelza Hospice Care for Children, backed by Greenwich Primary CareTrust, has won planning permission to build a new residential unit inEltham.

Alison Knott, Demelza's south London community fundraising manager, saidsome children had to travel to Sittingbourne in Kent to access thenearest children's hospice, which is also run by Demelza.

Construction work on the six-bed hospice begins next year, alongside a2.5m fundraising appeal.
