Health News: Obesity - Liverpool pays its teenage mentors

Sixth-formers will be paid to reach performance targets on encouraging younger children to lose weight as part of a peer mentoring scheme in Liverpool.

More than 300 teenagers aged 16 to 18 will be recruited to provideadvice and guidance to overweight 11-year-olds to encourage theirinterest in exercise and cooking.

Liberal Democrat councillor Paul Clein, executive member for children'sservices, said: "Youngsters are more easily influenced by their peersthan by adults. We can use the admiration they have for olderteenagers."
