Health News: Nutrition - Food scheme set to inform parents

A new campaign to provide advice on healthy food for younger children has been launched. It aims to fill what has been described as a "huge hole" in the information available to childcarers and parents.

At its annual conference last week, the Pre-School Learning Alliance launched its Feeding Young Imaginations campaign with scientific charity the British Nutrition Foundation.

The programme will include guidelines for food provision in pre-school settings, advice for parents, training for pre-school staff and an award scheme.

Judith Thompson, chair of trustees of the Pre-School Learning Alliance, said her organisation had been "astounded" at the lack of guidance that was available to those caring for the birth to five age group.

She said: "There needed to be some easy, practical, down-to-earth advice for settings and also for parents."
