Health News: NHS reform - A&E waiting times slashed in Herts

An NHS trust slashed waiting times for children in accident and emergency by appointing a specialist practitioner, says a new report by NHS Employers.

As part of an NHS-wide workforce modernisation programme, East and NorthHertfordshire NHS Trust created a new post of paediatric emergency nursepractitioner.

Based in the trust's accident and emergency team, the practitionerassesses and treats children with minor injuries as well as providing amore child-friendly service. According to the NHS Employers' report, therole has slashed children's length of stay in A&E from three to twohours and reduced the number of people children see from six tofour.

Improving Services for Children Through Large Scale Workforce Changealso highlighted efforts by other trusts to improve children's healthservices.
