Health News: Mental health - Teachers set to get training by 2009

By 2009 all teachers, nurses, social workers and GPs will be trained to promote children's mental health and identify problems, according to Department of Health guidance.

Dedicated mental health services for children in care and in the youthjustice system will be developed, while local agencies will deliverservices that promote the psychological wellbeing of mothers.

The guidance, issued at the end of November, also said that within fiveyears no child should be treated on an adult psychiatric ward.
