Health News: Leukaemia - Formal childcare cuts cancer risk

Scientists have linked attendance at formal childcare in infancy to a reduction in the risk of children developing childhood leukaemia.

Exposure to common infections in the first months of life is the "most plausible interpretation" of the findings, which were published in the British Medical Journal.

Researchers studied 6,300 children aged two to 14 without cancer, and 3,140 with cancer, 1,286 of whom had acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Parents were quizzed on social activity and use of daycare.
