Leukaemia and other childhood cancers are more prevalent in wealthier areas, a new study has found.
The report from government advisory body the Committee on MedicalAspects of Radiation found rates of leukaemia and some forms ofchildhood cancer, such as solid tumours, were higher in affluent areas.However, Hodgkin lymphoma was more prevalent in deprived areas.
Previous studies have suggested infections early in life, which may bemore likely in poor areas because of overcrowding, can strengthen theimmune system.
