The move follows a report by Essex County Council's health overview andscrutiny committee, which found that 11 per cent of children in thecounty aged between two and 10 were obese. The report recommends thatapproaches to child health should involve families and go beyond schoolage to include early years interventions.
The committee is offering the money to organisations that can find a wayto put these suggestions into action. A spokeswoman said: "There aresome great projects across Essex that are helping to tackle childhoodobesity and we want to support this work and enable new initiatives toget off the ground."
