Last year's public health white paper and health legislation this yearsignalled that local authorities and health services should jointlydeliver health promotion work, such as anti-smoking initiatives.
The Department of Health has charged local government body theImprovement and Development Agency to help it deliver a healthycommunities programme.
The two-year initiative will help councils improve joint working througha range of measures, such as asking experts to review local authorities'work.
Susan Biddle, joint head of the programme, said: "The programme willensure health considerations are woven into the way services aredelivered."
