Health News: Drugs - Agency calls for better prevention

Poor multi-agency assessments mean young people at risk of drug abuse are slipping through the net, says the Health Development Agency.

Researchers examining drug prevention strategies for those between 11 and 18, found multi-agency assessments "rare or non-existent, or adequate at best".

Author Mike Kelly, director of research and information, said: "The way to make this happen is to pilot this properly."

A centre has been set up at Liverpool John Moores University to allow more integration of policy and practice across the departments of health, education and the Home Office.
