"Smile with the prophet" is a seven-week programme developed by OldhamPrimary Care Trust in partnership with the Council of Mosques forOldham. Muslim children have the highest levels of tooth decay inOldham. Around 70 per cent of five-year-olds from the community havefive decayed teeth.
The project builds on a programme created by Bradford Primary CareTrust. It will be delivered in a local mosque and use the teachings ofMuhammad who promoted oral hygiene and good nutrition as an essentialpart of Islam.
The oral health improvement team, working with Sure Start Glodwick andSt Mary's and Higgingsham Children's Centre, will also offer familiesoral health checks.
