Health news: Deaf children - Guidelines outline value of vision

New guidance for professionals on vision care for deaf children and young people stresses the importance of joined-up working between services.

The guidelines, released by the National Deaf Children's Society and Sense, outline how vision should be assessed.

Families of deaf children and professionals in health and education were involved in the development of the guidelines.

Barbara Homer, deputy director of the society's UK services, said: "A deaf child is especially dependent on vision in order to acquire language and develop relationships with others."
