Health News: Child protection - Tool uses Climbie recommendations

A child protection self-assessment tool for healthcare professionals is due to be launched by the Commission for Health Improvement (CHI) today.

The tool comprises 11 statements based on the recommendations of the Climbie inquiry. Individuals and teams can use it to identify what they are doing well in the area of child protection and identify and address areas for improvement.

Liz Fradd, the commission's director of nursing and lead for its children's programme, said the tool was aimed at "all healthcare professionals who are working with children and in child protection services".

She added: "We won't be expecting a return on it. This is a developmental tool to help to move the practitioners on."
