Health News: Borthern Ireland - Task force to canvas views onsuicide

Children in schools and community groups will be adding their voices to a task force that has been set up to tackle the high level of suicide in Northern Ireland.

The initiative, which was launched last week by the country's children'scommissioner, Nigel Williams, enables young people to "message theminister" by posting comments of what needs to be done on thecommissioner's web site.

The comments will then be passed on to Shaun Woodward, minister forhealth, social services and public safety in the province, and thetaskforce, which was launched in June.

Comments already received include calls for more information, and forfunding for children's mental health services to match those foradults.

The news comes as researchers from the University of Ulster announcedthey would be undertaking a study of the physical and emotional healthof 3,000 families, the largest ever undertaken in the country.
