The Sapphire Suite at Singleton Hospital has been purpose-built forchildren who have suffered physical or sexual assault. It incorporates aforensic examination suite and a consulting and counselling room withsoft furnishings and lighting, low chairs and a discreet entrance forprivacy and comfort.
Dr Dewi Evans, paediatric clinical director at the hospital, saidpreviously children had been seen in a clinic in a health authoritybuilding that was "not ideal" and that was two miles away from thehospital.
