Health News: Paediatric Care - Children help to design hospital

Every parent visiting a sick child will be able to stay with them overnight at the first children's hospital to open in London for a century.

Dr Frances Flinter, clinical director of children's services at EvelinaChildren's Hospital, which will receive its first patients in October'said its children's board had been consulted on every feature of thehospital.

She said following children's complaints that parents were often unableto sleep next to them, beds that packed up in the day have beeninstalled beside every cot.

A helter-skelter will also be available for children to play on whilethey wait to be seen.

The hospital will bring together services currently provided at separatesites by Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

Flinter said that the different locations of services had led tochildren who are undergoing tests travelling between sites at night orreturning several times for tests.
