Health News: Advocacy - NHS reforms boost advocacy services

Children's advocacy services in health and social care will be boosted by the "enormous possibilities" thrown up for the voluntary sector by NHS reforms.

The news follows the creation of a taskforce by the Department of Healthto help voluntary organisations pitch for NHS work.

Virginia Beardsley, a taskforce member and chief executive of I Can'said the removal of health organisations' provider role under thereforms would give charities a greater say in how children's voices wereheard.

The reforms will also give children's charities a bigger role insupplying training and provision.

The taskforce will look at the barriers to effective relations betweenvoluntary sector and health service commissioners. Its work will feedinto the forthcoming primary care white paper.
