The Local Government Group said while it "strongly supports" the creation of health and wellbeing boards, it called on government to spell out what their role in children's health will be.
The training body also requested further details on what the boards' relationship with children's trusts will be, since the government is to remove the legal duty on local authorities to set up children's trust boards.
The response states: "We seek urgent clarification from the government on the relationship between health and wellbeing boards and children's trusts. Will the boards also be responsible for children's health and wellbeing?"
While encouraged by proposals to transfer the responsibility for public health services to local authorities, the group urged the government to clarify the level of resources that will be allocated to councils to meet their new public health duties.
