Health: Mental health Bill - Young people give evidence to MPs

Young people got the chance to tell MPs why it should be illegal to place them on adult mental health wards at an event held in Parliament last week.

The oral evidence session on the Mental Health Bill, held byConservative and Liberal Democrat MPs, considered all changes to thedraft law made by the Lords. The Government is planning to throw out allchanges, including a ban on inappropriately placing children and youngpeople on adult wards.

MPs heard how one female teenager had been placed on a mixed adult wardwithout a lock on the toilet door and had been intruded on by an adultmale patient.

Both teenagers who gave evidence said they would rather travel furtherand be treated on an adolescent ward than be put on an adult ward.
