Guidance on free early years funds

1 min read Early Years
The National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) and the Local Government Association have released a joint publication showcasing how local authorities and providers can improve the distribution of the money for the free early years entitlement.

The organisations hope the publication, released today (23 October), will encourage a fairer approach to how funding is handed out.

Purnima Tanuku, chief executive of the NDNA, said: "Every council is different but there are some fundamental issues that affect us all, such as underfunding for private, voluntary and independent (PVI) providers. What we're interested in is making sure they get a fair share."

Recent reforms to free early years entitlement require local authorities to include PVI providers on schools forums (CYP Now, 1 October) and to fully analyse all providers' costs and introduce a new method of funding that gives every provider a fair share of their costs by 2011.
