
All three- and four-years-olds in England will be entitled to 15 hours of free childcare provision a week - up from the current level of 12.5 hours - from September 2010. The move is part of the government's latest attempt to help parents juggle work and childcare commitments.
While this might sound like a straightforward commitment, it throws up some complex issues for all those delivering free provision.
Last week, the first of a two-part consultation on the proposals closed. Extending the Free Early Education Entitlement: Discussion Document on a New Code of Practice offers childcare providers a chance to pass on their recommendations to the government. Here we look at some of the main points raised so far.
