GSCC Update: New standards on the way

The latest on registration and conduct from the General Social Care Council.

When the General Social Care Council's functions transfer to the Health Professions Council, social workers will not only have a new regulator, but a new set of basic standards for the profession.

These new Standards of Proficiency will replace the Code of Conduct for Social Care Workers, which is the baseline for the profession. The new standards are being developed by the HPC's professional liaison group, which includes representatives from the GSCC, Association of Directors of Children's Services and the Joint University Council social work education committee.

Sherry Malik, the GSCC's director of strategy, has been among those around the table and says she is confident the result will be good for social workers.
