Green light for fish farming project

Youth Work
A project offering young people in Rotherham the chance to learn about fish and horticulture has been given the go-ahead.

The Able project will see a fish farm created on land near Ickles Lock at Templeborough, which will be used to provide training placements for local young people.

The initiative builds on the success of a project already up and running in Wakefield. The new scheme will give young people the opportunity to gain qualifications in aquaponics, which looks at the balance of fish and plant life, and will also encourage them to create small business enterprises linked to the project.

It is hoped the farm will be running by 2010.
