Grandparents have their say on families green paper

1 min read Social Care
Grandparents were given the chance to inform the forthcoming families green paper at a summit held this week.

Hosted by the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department for Children, Schools and Families yesterday, support groups and grandparents got the chance to debate how family and childcare services should adapt to better meet the needs of grandparents.

Politicians also heard thoughts on how grandparents could be helped to combine employment with the care of their grandchildren and how information and support can be made more accessible.

Yvette Cooper, Work and Pensions Secretary, said: "I know from personal experience just how important grandparents can be to help families juggle the demands of work and home life. Thousands of grandparents across the country are playing a vital role in all our lives and we want to do all we can to help support them, which is why today's event is so valuable."
