Jacky, a 56-year-old grandmother from Stevenage, spends much of her week looking after her granddaughter, Molly, who's two, while her daughter goes to work. "I felt apprehensive at the beginning because it's much more responsibility than with your own child as it's one step removed."
This apprehension has dissipated since Jacky began attending her local Grandparents Association toddler group. "The group gives support," she explains, "and you find out about things because, starting over again, things move on, like organic food. I think it's important for grandparents to have strong relationships with grandchildren as it helps to give them a strong sense of family."
